According to a China Daily HK report based on Jiji, Takaichi announced on 15 September that she would reshuffle the LDP leadership on Wednesday 16 September and the cabinet on Thursday 17 September. According to the Seoul Economic Daily and Observing Japan, Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama, Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara and LDP Secretary-General Shunichi Suzuki are expected to remain in their posts. Ministries' budget requests for fiscal year 2027 stand at 143.66 trillion yen. After the reshuffle Takaichi will travel to New York for the UN General Assembly.
The reshuffle is seen as Takaichi's last major opportunity to reshape her team ahead of the 2027 LDP leadership race.
