Two senior Tera executives detained in the investment fund investigation
In the investment fund investigation, Tera Portföy Chairman Erdin Özel was detained on the morning of 27 September and Tera Yatırım CEO Emir Münir Sarpyener around midday the same day. Arrest warrants for both had been issued on the night of 26 September.
According to a Hürriyet report published at 09:29 on 27 September and updated at 14:06, Özel was detained in the morning and Sarpyener around midday. The investigation is being run by the Terrorist Financing and Money Laundering Investigation Bureau of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. According to the same report, 19 suspects were referred to court on 26 September, and the assets of 46 legal entities, 18 funds and 42 individuals were frozen.
According to an AA-sourced BirGün report timed 09:27 on 27 September, both executives had already been subject to a travel ban. The investigation covers transactions by at least 4 groups: Pusula Finans Holding, Tera Yatırım, Hedef Holding and Bulls Yatırım. Sources conflict on the total number of people remanded in custody: BirGün gives 51, Hürriyet 45. Whether the two executives were remanded in custody could not be verified as of the morning of 28 September.
Talay assessment
Bottom line
The detention of two senior executives within 24 hours of the arrest warrants shows the investigation moving up from brokerages to group management. The discrepancy between 45 and 51 in the number held in custody is a reminder that public data remain fragmented. In the near term, the confidence problem in the fund market will be shaped by the speed and transparency of the judicial process.
