Brent retreats from its intraday high as Yanbu news trims the premium
November Brent futures closed 28 September at $105.28, up from a previous close of $104.32. The price rose as high as $108.83 at 15:39 TRT, then fell back on news that Saudi Arabia had resumed exports from Yanbu.
According to an EFE report on 28 September, November Brent ended the day on the London futures market up 0.93% at $105.28. At 12:39 GMT, or 15:39 TRT, the contract reached $108.83, up 4.32% on Friday's close. The rise was driven by Trump's rejection of Iran's peace proposal. Iran's foreign minister had also said the country was ready for both diplomacy and war.
The $3.55 pullback from the intraday high was linked to a report attributed to Bloomberg. According to an Investing.com summary dated 28 September, 15:04 (GMT+3), Saudi Arabia resumed crude loadings from the Red Sea port of Yanbu after a 17-day halt. A GlobalSecurity summary on 28 September said Brent rose to about $108.58 during the day and WTI to $95.6. It put the spread between the two benchmarks at around $13. We could not verify the WTI closing price in a source we opened and read.
Talay assessment
Bottom line
On 28 September the market priced two opposing headlines on the same day. The diplomatic rejection lifted the price above $108, while the resumption of loadings at Yanbu erased part of the premium. This shows the Red Sea outlet now matters as much as the Hormuz negotiations. A close above $105 suggests the market does not treat a single positive physical headline as lasting relief.
Likely effects
- Oil pricesNegativeWeeks
An intraday swing of $3.55 shows the price is highly sensitive to the news flow, which complicates purchase planning for refiners and importers.
- Türkiye's energy billNegativeWeeks
Brent closing above $105 means relief on fuel costs has not yet begun for Brent-linked importers such as Türkiye.
- Saudi export routeUncertainWeeks
Every disruption or recovery at Yanbu now shows up in the price on the same day; the Red Sea outlet has become the second main driver of the price.
