Türkiye reportedly supplied Ukraine with Korkut air-defence guns

Türkiye delivered a small number of Korkut gun-based air-defence systems to Ukraine in early 2026, Middle East Eye reported on 6 October. Neither Ankara nor Kyiv had officially confirmed the delivery as of 6 October.

Location: ANKARA

United24, citing Middle East Eye on 6 October, reported that ASELSAN-built Korkut systems are being used in Ukraine against Russian drones. Each unit consists of three gun vehicles and one command-and-control vehicle, and the system fires up to 600 rounds a minute of 25mm programmable ammunition. The number of units delivered was not disclosed; the report refers only to a small number of systems. An unnamed Ukrainian official said early problems had been fixed with minor adjustments and that further purchases were planned if the budget allows.

Yeniçağ reported on 6 October that ASELSAN's management had previously said Korkut is in service in nine countries. Türkiye and Ukraine had not confirmed the delivery as of 6 October, and the number and variant could not be verified. The timing matters: NBC News says Ukraine faced a shortage of Patriot interceptors on 7 October and is looking for cheap answers to the low-altitude drone threat. In the same week, on 5–6 October, three Turkish-owned ships were hit by drones in the Black Sea and two sank, according to Turkish Minute.

The report matters because of the mediating role Ankara has preserved since 2022. Türkiye Today reported on 1 June that Türkiye is negotiating to renew contracts for 22 billion cubic metres a year of Russian gas via Blue Stream and TurkStream; the contracts expire at the end of 2026. No official Russian reaction to the report had been recorded as of 6 October.

Talay assessment

Bottom line

If the Korkut delivery is confirmed, Türkiye will have tilted the balance it has maintained since 2022 one step further towards Ukraine. With few units and a gun-based weapon, the military effect is limited. The real effect is the leverage it hands Moscow in talks over the 22 billion cubic metres of gas contracts that expire at year-end. The most likely path is silence from both capitals, with the issue folded into the gas negotiations.

Likely effects

  • Türkiye–Russia gas talksNegative1–6 months

With the 22 billion cubic metres of Blue Stream and TurkStream contracts expiring at year-end, Moscow gains a pressure point in negotiations over price and duration.

  • ASELSAN exportsPositive1–6 months

Combat-tested status serves as a reference for new orders for Korkut, which is already in service in nine countries.

  • Black Sea securityNegativeWeeks

With three Turkish-owned ships hit on 5–6 October, Ankara appearing to take sides makes it harder to price the risk to Turkish vessels.
