The Istanbul Anatolian 16th Criminal Court of First Instance handed Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu a base sentence of 2 years and 6 months for publicly insulting a public official, former Tuzla Mayor Şadi Yazıcı; with a discretionary reduction, the sentence became 2 years and 1 month. The court also imposed a political ban under Article 53 of the Turkish Penal Code.
