Houthis claim six Saudi targets, but no damage at Aramco sites is confirmed

Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said the group had attacked six Saudi targets, including Ras Tanura, Abqaiq and Rabigh. The coalition reported downing missiles and drones on 29–30 October. The Rabigh claim brings the Red Sea outlet for 2.5 million barrels a day of Saudi exports into the target set. No damage has been verified.

Location: SAUDI ARABIA

According to Saree's statement on al-Masirah, ballistic missiles were aimed at the Ras Tanura refinery, Aramco facilities at Abqaiq and the Rabigh refinery on the Red Sea coast. He also claimed two missiles fired at King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, drones at King Fahd Airport in Dammam and an attack on a military headquarters in Najran. Saree presented this as retaliation for recent Saudi air strikes in Yemen. The Houthis claimed those strikes killed 27 people; the figure could not be verified. No statement from Saudi Arabia or Aramco confirming damage at the three energy sites could be found.

The coalition said it intercepted three ballistic missiles on 29 October, two heading for Riyadh and one for the Eastern Province. On 30 October it reported destroying a drone over the Makkah region; the Houthis denied targeting Makkah. The same day a drone was downed near Riyadh and a ballistic missile in the south. According to Reuters, the coalition also intercepted a cruise missile heading west. Debris from the two missiles over Riyadh injured one Saudi citizen and damaged a house and a vehicle. Another drone was downed over Riyadh on 31 October; no perpetrator was named.

The Yemeni front is also heating up: a police official told AFP that the Houthis fired two missiles at the presidential palace in Aden. Air India suspended Saudi flights until 14 November. On insurance, Reuters reported on 25 September war-risk premiums of about 3% at Yanbu for Saudi-linked tankers and up to 7% south of Yanbu. Red Sea transits without a Saudi link were paying 0.2–0.3%. Those figures are five weeks old. Windward counted 32 transits through Bab el-Mandeb on 29 October, up from 26 the day before, so passage has not yet been cut.

Talay assessment

Bottom line

The Houthis are widening their target list before showing any damage. Rabigh's inclusion matters, because Saudi barrels avoiding Hormuz risk leave from the Red Sea coast. With no verified hits, the pressure shows up in insurance and travel decisions rather than in price. The most likely path is that interceptions keep succeeding but the tempo of attacks does not ease.

Likely effects

  • Red Sea outletNegativeWeeks

As west-coast facilities are treated as targets, war-risk premiums at and south of Yanbu could face upward pressure for Saudi-linked ships.

  • AviationNegativeWeeks

Air India's suspension until 14 November raises the commercial cost of travel via Riyadh and Dammam.

  • Saudi air defenceNegative1–6 months

Intercepting simultaneously over Riyadh, the Eastern Province, the Makkah region and the south strains air-defence stocks.
